We’ve made the move to Michigan! We arrived in our new home
town on December 11, 2013 and unloaded the moving truck the next day. December
15th was Joshua’s first day of preaching.
We love it here so far, but there are some things that are
going to take some getting used to. For one thing, they talk funny here! I grew
up in Virginia near D.C. in a very transient area with a mixture of many
different cultures and backgrounds. I was used to hearing different accents.
But these Michigan folk… they’s different. I cain’t hardly understand a word
they’s sayin’! Joshua grew up in Alabama. He’s my Southern Charmer with an endearing
southern drawl. He gets a few smiles and giggles when he opens his mouth ;-) We
both have to work hard sometimes to understand and to be understood when we’re
trying to converse with the natives.
The other thing that is taking some getting used to is all
the SNOW! Our second night here it snowed six inches with another inch or two
of snowfall the next day. And just last night it snowed ten inches! It’s a
winter wonderland out there which we are SO not used to. It’s gorgeous. Where I
grew up we got maybe twelve inches a year, but this is Joshua’s first experience
with a real winter. Everyone tells us we’ll be sick of it soon, but for now we
are enjoying the cold and newness of it all. We both have to get used to
driving in the snow and ice, but so far it hasn’t caused us too much of an
issue.
We are so excited to be here, finally working together the
way we’ve always wanted. We are humbled that God has provided so abundantly for
our needs. We love our new church family. We enjoy our new community. We are thrilled
to begin our work for the Lord and are ready to hit the ground running! Please
keep our family in your prayers as we prepare for everything that the year 2014
may bring our way.
